Commisions

‘Autumn in the Barossa’ and ‘Florescence’ are being sent to Malaysia to join two paintings in this series purchased previousily by this collector. It will be lovely to see summer and autumn join winter and spring in this series.

‘Pierre de Rhonsard roses’ was my first floral commission and hangs in a lovely old house with hugely high ceilings. Originally the owners were thinking of a smaller size but the space really needed more and at 1.8m long this is that. I do like to view the space where the work is to hang before finalising the composition wherever possible, as it helps me to understand the client’s aims and requirements. Whether a piece should feel energetic or peaceful and it also gives me a sense of the light in which the work will be viewed.

One of my earliest and most consistent collectors from Western Australia called ‘dibs’ on my next two works after ‘Familial Fruit’ opened at The Red Spot, Penny Hill Winery McLaren Vale. Still, I had to give ‘Pomegranates’ and ‘Mixed Citrus’ a little outing first at The Hyatt Regency for Tasting Australia 2007.

‘Persimmon harvest’ oil on linen, 200cm x 150cm was commissioned in 2008 following my solo exhibition ‘Seasons’ to hang in a stairwell with the brief that it should ‘fill the space’ and give the feeling you were immersed in colour. Usually a painting is viewed predominantly from eye height. My aim was to make this piece interesting viewed both as you ascended and descended the stairs as well as from less then a foot away while on the landing, which presented quite a challenge.

‘Quinces, late light 2’ was commissioned to be enjoyed daily as viewed from the kitchen table with the sun streaming through glass doors opening to the back garden. The idea of bringing the outside inside while celebrating the abundance of life is a favourite theme.

In 2010 I was commissioned to do a painting of ‘Green apples’ to hang on a wall covered in wide black and white striped wallpaper. The lush, large, round curves in crisp green formed an eye-catching counterpoint.

I’m not often asked to create small works and rarely revisit a particular image, but ‘Bud burst’ from my 2011 series ‘Before the wine’ has proven irresistible.

‘Calm’ and ‘Contribute’ finished in 2012 hang in a white on white minimalist townhouse and help convey a sense of cool, peaceful, open space.
