Still life

Unlike medieval concepts of still life which reflected the transience of earthly delights, my focus is abundance. Allowing the happiness found in the small details of life to fill our vision and focus, reminding us that present joy and this moment are sufficient. My most recent paintings reflect a slightly quirky view of the concept with fruit just balanced on improbable objects, perched larger than life and richly displayed with decadent gold leaf.

I pay tribute to the long tradition of still life painting through my use of strongly oblique light which intensifies colour and focuses composition.
