Catherine Fitz-Gerald works from her home studio, freely sharing her space and skills, in an inclusive environment, with fellow artists and children for over 15 years.

Each year she opens her studio during SALA and is regularly asked to give artist talks, workshops and create commissioned works.

Catherine is committed to community engagement and recently completed Audio Description for the Arts training.

Catherine Fitz-Gerald is a multidisciplinary, South Australian artist recognised for her masterful skills in handling light and luminous colour. Her practice uses traditional oil painting, abstractions, installation photography and digital storytelling. Catherine has also independently published three limited-edition art books as outcomes of residencies or exhibitions.

Her work develops in a series of extended investigations, exploring the common threads that bind us as people and communities. Recurring themes include intergenerational and intercultural education, seasonal produce and domestic making, memory, climate change and ecosystems at risk. Curiosity and experimentation underpin her expressive practice.

By taking the well-known genre of still life and gently pushing it into a different plane, her work challenges the viewer to pause and reevaluate everyday moments.

An award-winning artist, Catherine has participated in and curated group and solo exhibitions with great success, in both non-traditional and gallery spaces. Her work can be found in private collections throughout Australia, USA, Malaysia, Europe and New Zealand.
