This school holidays, come make an island, a place shaped by your imagination.
Perhaps your island has a volcano, a coral reef, or a rocky cliff.

Sandhya Mulchandani and Catherine Fitz-Gerald invite you to shape clay islands as we think with our hands and reflect on Australia’s 8,222 vulnerable island environments.
This free adult workshop invites participants to sculpt clay islands while reflecting on the increasing impacts of climate change across Australia’s 8,222 islands.
In keeping with the Nature Festival 2026 theme Seed, the sessions embrace patient, mindful making—where awareness grows through attention, care, and quiet observation. Each participant will shape small clay islands as symbolic “seeds” of imagination and responsibility, exploring how creativity can nurture environmental consciousness. The islands made will be included in a community art installation and exhibition in 2027.
Across four one‑hour sessions, you’ll engage in tactile, reflective art‑making guided by experienced facilitators. The process encourages slowing down, connecting with material and meaning, and cultivating a sense of stewardship for the natural world.
